UNC finishes at number one in final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll

GILBERT, Ariz. — For the ninth and final time this season, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels were voted into first place on the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Atlantic Coast Conference champions are undefeated heading into the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship tournament where they took the number one seed — the Tar Heels will know their opponent after opening rounds conclude on Wednesday.

In second place this week is the University of Maryland. The Terrapins were crowned Big Ten Tournament champions on Sunday and took the number two seed in the NCAA Championship tournament — they will face No. 17 University at Albany, winners of the America East Conference championship. Following the Terps are No. 3 Duke University and No. 4 Princeton University — both teams will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship tournament. Completing the top five is the Big East Conference champion, No. 5 University of Connecticut. UCONN will face No. 11 Rutgers University in the first round.

Follow the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship on the FieldTurf Scoreboard hosted by nfhca.org. The tournament begins tomorrow, November 7, with opening round matches between the College of William and Mary and Monmouth University, and between No. 22 Boston University and No. 24 Miami University of Ohio. The Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the 2018 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
